Introduction and Overview
  • Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav is a cultural festival which had its first edition launched on 28th September 2024 by the President of India.
  • The ceremony was inaugurated at the Rashtrapati Nilayam, located in Secunderabad, part of the city of Hyderabad.
  • This festival is an eight-day event which is meticulously planned and organised by the Rashtrapati Nilayam in conjunction with the Ministry of Development of the North-east Region (DoNER) and the Ministry of Culture.
Purpose and Goals
  • The main aim of Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav is to celebrate and shine a spotlight on the colourful cultural heritage expressed in the art, crafts, and culinary diversity of the North-Eastern states.
  • Moreover, the festival also aims to bridge the gap between the north-eastern and southern regions of the nation, fostering a cultural exchange that allows for heightened understanding, appreciation, and integration of diverse cultures.
Rashtrapati Nilayam
  • The Rashtrapati Nilayam is distinct for being one of India's three presidential retreats - the remaining two are nestled in Delhi and Shimla.
  • Notably, the Rashtrapati Nilayam is the only presidential retreat situated in Southern India.
  • The retreat complex, covering a plush 90-acre land area, was constructed in 1860 and later taken over by the Nizam of Hyderabad post India's independence.
