- Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh stands as the 5th cleanest city in India among those with a population exceeding one lakh.
- It has achieved a 5-star Garbage Free City (GFC) rating, making it the cleanest state capital in India.
2. Key Practices Ensuring Cleanliness
- Bhopal adopts top-notch waste management practices and groundbreaking innovations.
- The city, generating 850 tons of waste daily, ensures that the entire waste spectrum is processed every day.
- Efforts are aimed towards scientific waste disposal, waste-to-wealth projects, and recycling initiatives, along with the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (3Rs) mantra.
3. Systematic Waste Collection and Segregation
- Bhopal ensures meticulous waste collection and segregation with 469 door-to-door garbage collection vehicles and 202 road sweeping vehicles.
- A methodical segregation system operates at 12 Transfer Stations and 6 Material Recovery Facility (MRF) centres.
4. Green Endeavor: Transformation of Bhanpur Dumpsite
- Bhopal transformed the Bhanpur dumpsite into a green area, reclaiming 21 acres of land and developing a park on 16 acres.

- In collaboration with Hazargo Industry Pithampur, Bhopal set up the first preprocessing plant for scientific management of hazardous waste.

- Bhopal's future projects include signing an agreement with NTPC for a 400 TPD dry Municipal Solid Waste to torrefied charcoal plant.
- It plans to establish a Bio-CNG plant with a daily processing capacity of 400 TPD.
