Centre launches ULLAS mobile application to promote basic literacy

The  Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam 2023, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marked the launch of ULLAS: Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram, designed to transform education and literacy in India. Introduced by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, ULLAS aims to provide an inclusive learning ecosystem, targeting individuals aged 15 and above who have missed out on formal education. This initiative focuses on functional literacy, vocational skills, and essential life skills like financial, legal, and digital literacy. The ULLAS mobile app connects learners with educational resources via the DIKSHA portal. The program also encourages volunteerism wherein volunteers assist in disseminating knowledge among diverse communities. ULLAS also features a logo and slogan representing its commitment to ignite curiosity and promoting lifelong learning.

Important Points to remember:

  1. ULLAS initiative aims to bridge the education gap in Indian society, a noble cause students can contribute to.
  2. ULLAS encourages student participation and offers incentives (school credits, certificates, and felicitation) for volunteering efforts.
  3. The platform can be used as an additional learning resource due to its comprehensive material that includes functional, financial, legal, and digital literacy.
  4. Students can access ULLAS by downloading the mobile application from Google PlayStore or the iOS App Store
