Goa Statehood Day 2023 observed on 30th May

Goa Statehood Day, commemorated on May 30th, marks the day when Goa was declared a state separate from Daman and Diu in 1987 and transitioned from a former Portuguese territory to the 25th state of the Republic of India. Conquered by Alfonso de Albuquerque in 1510, Goa was ruled by the Portuguese for 400 years before India took back the region post-independence in 1961 through Operation Vijay. After gaining its statehood in 1987, Panaji was established as Goa's capital, and Konkani was recognized as the official language. Shri Dayanand Bhandarkar became the first elected Chief Minister of Goa on December 20, 1962.
