Indian Navy’s “TROPEX 2023” maritime exercise held in the Indian Ocean

The Indian Navy’s biennial maritime drill, Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise (TROPEX 2023), is currently ongoing in the Indian Ocean Region. It involves not just Indian Navy units but also assets of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Coast Guard. Originally held in 2019, it is considered the largest warfare game in India. The three-month-long exercise, beginning January 2023, involves all surface combatants, submarines, and aircraft being put through intricate maritime operational settings to verify and improve the Navy’s operational logistics and interoperability with other forces. The exercise is held in different phases including harbour and sea and includes various aspects of combat operations, such live weapon firings. This helps test the combined fleets' combat readiness in a multi-threat setting and strengthens interoperability and joint operations in a complex environment.
