Odisha wins World Habitat Award 2023 for its JAGA Mission
The state of Odisha, India has earned the noteworthy World Habitat Awards 2023 by UN-Habitat for its ambitious Jaga Mission. This award encourages vibrant, groundbreaking housing concepts, projects, and programmes all over the world. Launched as a part of the state's 5T initiative, Jaga Mission serves as the largest program for land titling and slum modernization. It aspires to improve the lives of slum dwellers and aims at making Odisha the first slum-free state in India. Over the past five years, this program has provided land tenure security to 1,75,000 families, pipe water connections to every household in 2,724 slums, individual toilets to households in 666 slums, and converted 707 slums into habitable regions. Furthermore, it has made 8 cities slum-free. The Jaga Mission had previously won the World Habitat Awards in 2019 for its success in providing land tenure security.
